PROPOSAL
My research question will be “Do different methods of informing people about rape culture and sexual assault impact different perspectives on whether or not they understand the different aspects of rape culture and if they think that nudity is oversexualized in our country?” I can provide statistical evidence on the perspectives of the students at SOJO. I want to see how well they can be informed about the aspects of rape culture such as oversexualization. It can help raise awareness and take action as regards to this issue. My Ho is that P1=P2, which means that the true proportion of students who say catcalling is the same as rape is equal to the true proportion of students who say nudity is oversexualized in our country. My Ha is that P1<P2, which means that the true proportion of students who say catcalling is the same as rape is less than to the true proportion of students who say nudity is oversexualized in our country.
My explanatory variable is the different methods of informing the students about rape culture and sexual assault, which include video and an infographic. My response variable will be the individual responses about their perspectives on both study questions. These variables are categorical. I will use a two proportion z-test to find if there is enough evidence that proves that the true proportion of students who say catcalling is the same as rape is less than to the true proportion of students who say nudity is oversexualized in our country, at a significance level of 5% (𝛼=0.05).
To continue this experiment, I will be taking an SRS of 10 students for each study. Study 1 will look at a video and Study 2 will look at an infographic. The way these students are informing themselves are treatments. I will then compare the results from both treatments. To continue with my test three conditions must be met; Random, Normal (np>10 successes and n(1-p)>10 failures), and independent; therefore, when all statistical evidence is found the p-value must be small so that I could reject my null hypotheses and conclude my alternative hypotheses in context.

Study 1
“Catcalling isn’t even close to the same as rape, you weren’t assaulted because a guy whistled.” Do you agree or disagree with this comment? Study 2 Do you agree or disagree that nudity is being oversexualized in our country? |
Study 1 𝛼=.05
P1=.30 Difference=.04 n1=10 Z-Value=1.8 Study 2 P-Value=.0736 P2=.70 Ho P1=P2 n2=10 Ha P1<P2 |
Since the P-Value is greater than alpha (.0736>.05), then I do not reject the null hypotheses and can't conclude the alternative in context. This means that the true proportion of students at SOJO who say catcalling is the same as rape is actually equal to the true proportion of students who say nudity is oversexualized in our country.
