This issue is seen nationally because many people suffer feminist issues in the United States. The United States is one of the major sufferers of feminist issues such as rape, sexual assault/harassment, cat-calling, etc. According to RAINN, a woman’s chance of being raped in America is “1 in 5,” which proves that rape is a huge concern for women in the United States. This issue should be addressed because women are not fully aware of the danger that they can possibly be put in every time they leave their house. Rape and sexual assault is the prime concern for women in the United States, and it should be acknowledged RAINN also suggests that only “54% of rapes” are reported. This demonstrates the reality of the violent crimes that are not even reported, proving that rape/sexual assault is a real issue. ABC News also states that “1 in 4 women have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace, and 1 in 10 men say they’ve experienced it as well.” This continues to prove that sexual harassment/rape is a problem that needs a solution soon. ABC News also states that “A quarter of men say they worry about being falsely accused of sexual harassment. This brings another issue because there are many cases where false rape allegations cause people to not be able to trust them. Men also suffer from this, because we have to realize that they are not “all the same.”
Some ways that this issue is being resolved in the United States are by having support groups, organizations, and hotlines. Many college students are stepping up to fight against rape and sexual harassment. For example. Howard University’s students protested against the university’s handling of alleged rapes. According to WUSA9 News, “...students have released a list of demands for the university in response to the alleged rapes, including more thorough investigations for alleged assaults.” This is proof that many campuses will be influenced by this protest, and will try to fight against these injustices. The National Organization for Women, (NOW), also continues to have protests and having “action alerts” to take part in certain feminist movements in the United States. This is inspirational to many modern feminists, and continues to motivate many people in the United States to make a change not only nationally, but globally.
