“By age 16, as many as one in six boys in America has had unwanted sex with an adult or older child.” (Gartner, 2011) The struggle in which an American girl and boy can be assaulted in the United States is had to realize what we hear and see. I’ve never heard about these statistics and it’s just scary to realize that it can be anyone that can be sexually abuse, especially in the United States but I’m pretty sure that in other countries it can be worse as well. “ About 3% of American men — or 1 in 33 — have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime” (RAINN, 2009)”

This issue is seen nationally because many people suffer feminist issues in the United States. The United States is one of the major sufferers of feminist issues such as rape, sexual assault/harassment, cat-calling, etc. According to RAINN, a woman’s chance of being raped in America is “1 in 5,” which proves that rape is a huge concern for women in the United States. This issue should be addressed because women are not fully aware of the danger that they can possibly be put in every time they leave their house. Rape and sexual assault is the prime concern for women in the United States, and it should be acknowledged RAINN also suggests that only “54% of rapes” are reported. This demonstrates the reality of the violent crimes that are not even reported, proving that rape/sexual assault is a real issue. ABC News also states that “1 in 4 women have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace, and 1 in 10 men say they’ve experienced it as well.” This continues to prove that sexual harassment/rape is a problem that needs a solution soon. ABC News also states that “A quarter of men say they worry about being falsely accused of sexual harassment. This brings another issue because there are many cases where false rape allegations cause people to not be able to trust them. Men also suffer from this, because we have to realize that they are not “all the same.”

In 1985, University of South Dakota, Struck Johnson asked victims of coercive tactics to describe, in this study there was a 55 percent of women report of the physical abuse they went through while men were at 10 percent. Three men were interviewed and asked what had happen towards them and they all reported saying that either they were drunk, locked in their car or the women wouldn’t stop after he said No. Someone also wrote that one male victim was forced into sex by the women grabbing his penis until he said Yes to sex. |
