Julie's Reflection
I chose the topic of rape culture/sexual assault because I became passionate about the Gender Unit in my AP English and Composition class my junior year. I began to notice that most of my essays were about violence or sexualization of women, and began to realize that men also faced many issues. After learning about so many gender issues, I found that I became passionate about feminism. I knew that rape and sexual assault was a real issue in the United States, but realized that it’s actually a problem around the world. The sexualization of people’s bodies has been continuously promoted in popular culture such as media and music, and I believe that is most responsible for rape and sexual assaults. I learned a lot about working with my partners because I realized that they have experienced a lot of gender issues like I have. I came to realize that the people closest to me are affected by these issues and many people all over the world have been affected by these issues as well. I learned that when you work with people who are as passionate as you are on your topic, and are responsible to work on a project, you will be successful. I believe that if you choose the right people, you will end up with a great presentation and project overall. |
